Motivation Introduction

One of the questions that all teachers ask is, "How can I motivate this student?" We all have had at least one student, or sometimes nearly a classroom full of students, who seem uninterested in reading. What can we do to spark some interest in books? How can we help our students to become better readers if they hardly read? How can we help them to appreciate and even love to read?

Some of the ways that I have found helpful in motivating students to read are:
  • Book Talks
  • Book Suggestion Boards
  • Author Studies
  • A Classroom Library With A Range of Leveled Books Incorporating Many Genres and Interests
  • Reading Logs
  • Conferencing About Reading Goals
  • Teaching About Different Genres
  • Online Reading
  • Book Report Projects With Choices
  • Literature Circles
I will be addressing each of these ways to help motivate students to read. Read my future blogs for help in motivating your students to read.
